Hex Jam Nut (Thin Hex Nut)
Low-profile hex jam nuts for space-limited assemblies and double-nut arrangements. Specify thread, nut height, across-flats dimension, material, finish and mating fastener in the RFQ.

When a jam nut is the right choice
A hex jam nut is a thin, low-profile hex nut. Buyers usually specify it where axial space is limited or as the thinner nut in a double-nut arrangement. It should not be treated as a full-height hex nut: ISO 4035:2023 notes reduced loadability and says thin nuts used as jam nuts are assembled with a regular or high nut.
Define the nut before quotation
The name "jam nut" does not define every dimension. State the governing drawing or standard, thread system, nominal diameter, pitch or threads per inch, tolerance class, nut height and width across flats. Add the material, finish, quantity and any inspection documents required for the order.
Assembly points buyers should confirm
A thin nut alone does not provide a universal locking result. For a double-nut arrangement, identify which nut sits against the joint, the tightening sequence and the required torque or preload method. Confirm available wrench clearance and thread engagement on the mating bolt, stud or threaded rod. Validate the assembly under the actual load and vibration conditions.
Send a usable RFQ
For the quickest review, send a drawing or standard reference with the thread and nut-height requirement. If you are comparing this part with a full-height nut, see our Hex Nut page. For non-standard dimensions or a special profile, use the Custom Fasteners page and attach the drawing.
