A square U-bolt has a square bend with rounded corners and two straight threaded legs. It can clamp square tube, rectangular members and brackets. Check the top contact surface, corner clearance and leg positions against the mating parts.
Define the measurement datums
Distinguish inside width, outside width and leg-centre distance, and show where inside length begins. Include bend radius, actual rod diameter, thread diameter and pitch, usable thread length and leg-length tolerances. The thread must let the selected nuts reach their seating position for the complete assembly stack.
Review the clamped components
Mounting-plate thickness, hole positions, washers, nuts and the clamped surface all affect fit. The design should establish any liner or backing plate needed for thin-walled or soft parts. The shape alone cannot establish a general load rating or tightening value.
